Vacations are for relaxing.
Eliminate stress by following these simple tips.
1.A Smart Selection of Jewelry is key to limiting your risk. Layout the clothes you are bringing and find jewelry that goes with each outfit. The less you bring the less you have to worry about.2. Document Your Jewelry by taking pictures and bring a list of what you packed with you! Keep a back up copy at home.3. Insure Valuable Jewelry so you can replace it should anything happen. Your local jeweler can provide you with the appraisal information you will need to insure your jewelry. Email us to find a jeweler near you at info@jabel.com.4. Package Each Piece of Jewelry and avoid obvious jewelry travel bags that will be tempting to thieves. Pinterest is full of great packing ideas. Here are some of my favorites
- Use old buttons to keep earrings from bumping and scratching
- The small plastic zip bags (poly bags) your local jeweler uses to ship jewelry to and from the manufacturers are ideal. For chains, leave the tail of the chain hanging out to eliminate tangles! To keep the bags safe, put them in a hard sun glass case.
- Pill boxes can keep your poly bag wrapped jewelry protected from shifting items in your carry on bag.
5. Do Not Pack Jewelry In Checked Luggage. Yes, I am guilty of this. Luckily my loss was only a fun piece of disposable costume jewelry which I thought would be safe tucked inside a smelly shoe! Always keep your jewelry in a carry on bag that will not leave your side.6. Save Your Bling till you pass security. Keep your jewelry safely tucked away in a carry on item that will not leave your side, except for the X-Ray belt. TSA officers are rightly concerned with keeping you safe, not your jewelry, and an unattended dish of jewelry waiting for you to go through the metal detector is a disaster waiting to happen. After you are safely in the airport you can put the finishing touches on your outfit.7. Locate Your Hotel Room Safe. It is never a good idea to relax in hotel pool or hot tub with your jewelry. The alloys in gold are susceptible to the chlorine in the water. You will enjoy that Piña Colada much more if your not stressing over your valuables! And it will save you a repair bill down the road.8. Hide Your Jewels without removing them if you find yourself in an area that makes you uncomfortable. Let your hair down to cover diamond earrings, tuck your necklace in your shirt, or turn the diamonds and gems of your rings into the palm of your hand so it looks like your wearing a plain gold wedding band.9. Keep It Clean by using alcohol prep pads to give your jewelry a quick clean up! Your local jeweler can also provide you with polishing clothes to shine up your jewelry when you are away from home!Remember, whether your traveling with fun fine gemstone jewelry or a heirloom engagement rings, a loss can put a damper on any vacation. Travel smart and have fun!
