Vintage Engagement Rings, Ring Guard

Alaina's Story

When Alaina contacted me on Facebook with her beautiful vintage engagement ring and ring guard I couldn't wait to hear how the ring came to her. She graciously provided me with the following romantic story.

Vintage Engagement Rings, Ring Guard

The Story:"Before getting engaged, my husband (then-boyfriend) would ask me questions about jewelry often. What kind I liked, what styles, etc. I always responded with "anything vintage and white gold!" So when looking to purchase my engagement ring, he went to his mother (a secondhand jewelry dealer) who referred him to a family friend. Apparently, this friend had been holding on to this ring for a long time waiting for "the right buyer". When my husband inquired about what she had available, and told her what my jewelry preferences were, she knew she had found the right person and told him she just happened to have something perfect for me in mind. He bought the ring from her that same day. He proposed on New Year's Eve 2006 and I remember saying about the ring- "Oh, it's just perfect!!" And it was. I absolutely loved it from the first moment I saw it. (Much like my husband!) We don't know where his family friend obtained the ring, nor did she offer to tell us. She did frequent estate sales, so it's quite possible she found it at one of those.I've had countless compliments and questions about the ring since he gave it to me, and I'm happy to now have some answers. My husband and I found it oddly coincidental that these rings were introduced in 1967, which is the year of his birth! This ring was the beginning of our love story, and will hopefully become a treasured family heirloom in the future."The Style:The engagement ring and ring guard were both introduced in 1967. The engagement ring setting is Jabel's DM4176. The side stones total .04CTTW, excluding the center stone. We believe the ring was made using 4 separate findings and was hand assembled by Jabel's team of expert craftsmen. The ring guard, DCW4176 contains .20CTTW of diamonds and was made using 8 hand assembled findings. The ring guard was designed so the engagement ring setting could drop-in for a snug fit.Fun Fact: Collectively, between alloying, die striking, jewelers work, setting, and finishing these rings require approximately 6.5 hours to complete.
