Jabel, American die struck jewelery, first began producing heirloom quality rings in 1916 under the leadership of JJ Abelson, hence the company name "Jabel". A true testament to the quality are the regular emails we receive from 2nd, 3rd and now 4th generation owners of Jabel's early jewelry. It is an honor to continue in JJ's footsteps and to appreciate just how long ago he opened Jabel's doors. Here are some highlights from 1916...
- 1916 was a leap year
- WWI was sweeping through Europe
- The "Progressive Era" was winding down
- BMW was founded
- Silent Movie's such as 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea were popular films at the box office
- Saturday Evening Post published its first cover using a Norman Rockwell painting
- Jackie Gleason was born (The Honeymooners, TV)
- Gregory Peck was born (To Kill A Mockingbird, Movie)
- Beverly Clearly was born (the Ramona books)
- Monet was painting his Waterlilies Series Woodrow Wilson was President
- Dadaism was moving the Art Community
- The British Royal Army conducted their first blood transfusion
At Jabel we continue the company's die striking tradition. Some of the earliest styles like the ring featured above from 1925's Ring Transformation catalog are still in production today. The only thing that has changed since the early days at Jabel is the extent of our line. In addition to ladies ring, mounting and bands we now offer pendants, earrings, bracelets and gents rings.Any thoughts on what we will be making in another 97 years?
