Katy and Matt got engaged on June 29th. Matt proposed with Jabel's DM4556 seen above. Katy was finding starfish with her nephew on Cape Cod when she shot the photograph above. Here is their love story:The journey of Matt and I began over ten years ago when I attended my first year of college at Keene State in New Hampshire. Matt was a junior when I was just a freshman. We were both busy student athletes. Matt played basketball and I played field hockey as well as performed on the dance team. My first attempted encounter of meeting Matt is a funny story. As part of our field hockey freshman initiation we had to go around campus and get a random list of peoples signatures on our field hockey ball. Lone and behold Matt Wheeler was one of the names on the list. My sister and her roommates found his dorm and went over to get their field hockey balls' signed. As they knocked on his door they were greeted with a tall six foot six figure and three other tall basketball players. As they approached him to get their signatures he did not make the job easy. He put my sister and her roommates up to a few challenges before he signed the ball. When my sister came back and told me the story, I was too afraid to meet him. So instead I decided to forge his signature on my ball.
As we laugh about the situation today, it’s what made him fall in love with me. He loved how sweet, quiet and innocent I was. When we first met we connected right away. I was immediately drawn to his sense of humor, as he was attracted to my sweetness. We began talking and our relationship began to grow. At that moment I never knew he would be the one, but deep down he knew and was not about to give up on it. After many conversations each night, and encounters at school we both began to slowly fall for one other. We secretly started hanging out more the next school year, and really started to get to know one another. Through our many late night conversations I began to realize how sweet he was to me. He always had the right thing to say to make me smile and made me feel special. It wasn’t until the next year that I realized I wanted to be with him. I was now a junior and Matt had one semester left of school. As our relationship became official Matt's last semester quickly approached us. His lease was up and the plan was for him to head back home to New York. Matt did not want to leave me so he decided to get a job in Keene and stay the next year and a half with me as I finished school. He moved in with my roommates and I, and the rest is history.
After college we moved in together in my hometown of Roxbury, Connecticut, and started our careers. As our relationship grew stronger it took Matt an awful long time to make it official. After almost ten years of dating Matt finally decided to pop the question June 29th at our home. After spending a very romantic weekend together, he concluded the weekend by making me breakfast. When we were done eating he came back with another plate with three heart shaped pancakes with frosting that said, “Will you marry me?” In shock, I happily accepted. Matt and I plan to get married next summer, and look forward to spending the rest of our lives together.
